Training

The Aspirations For Life Supporting Children with Learning Disabilities and Their Families is a two-day course that you can deliver once you have down loading our resource pack. (coming very soon)

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • gained an understanding of the experiences of families and people with learning disabilities,
  • reviewed their existing services and practice to see how they can be made more welcoming to children with learning disabilities and their families,
  • develop the skills of staff to support children in a way that listens to and value the uniqueness of each child and their family,
  • considered current policy and legislation,
  • developed links to share skills across Children's Centres in their area.

The Tell It Right Start It Right Training, delivered by the Down’s Syndrome Association is an invaluable day’s training for health professionals (midwives in particular)  This document explains why and here is a sample programme of the day.

Parents may also be interested in it as they may have had experiences in their area or may represent a local support group. Contact details are given within the document, so that the DSA can perhaps provide training in your area.  The document also has links to the DSA website which has plenty of literature to support parents with a diagnosis of DS during pregnancy or after a birth.

Based in Birmingham, Building Bridges Training offer a variety of training courses.  If you can't come to them then they can come to you.  Please download this document to see their autumn programme.

Words From Wendy

I am proud that I am treated equally at work... not as special or different.
I am one of the team.
